WRC History
The following is an extract from A History of Rowing by Hilton Cleaver and printed in 1957.
The book used to be in Worthing Library in the early 1980s but a copy was found again in a second hand book shop that used to be in Crescent Road, Worthing.
We think that that photos below are from around the 1950s.

Women at the WRC
1975 - FIRST WOMEN'S CREW
For most of its history, rowing has been a male dominated sport. Worthing Rowing Club was established in 1880 but it wasn't until 1975 when women were first allowed to race. This is the first Worthing Women's crew, proudly breaking down the sex barriers - from bow: Judy Ratner, Gillian McLean, Mary Pickles and Jayne Dumper, coxing was Ian Birch.
Gill is still an active member of the club - kindly sharing her wisdom and her jeep!
