SUMMER LEARN 2 ROW
COURSE
FOR 12 - 16 YEAR OLDS
WHY SHOULD I DO IT?
You'll get fitter, meet new people, and have fun! At the end of the course you'll have the choice of either training hard, joining a crew and racing at regattas, or taking it easy going for a leisurely paddle.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This course is aimed at 12 to 16 year olds. No prior experience of rowing is required. You just need to be able to swim 100 metres in light clothing. We run annual swimming competency tests but for this course your parent or carer will need to confirm your swimming ability.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
We will teach you the basics of sculling (with two oars) and rowing (with 1 oar). We will cover safety, boat handling, technique and improving general fitness. All sessions will be under the management of suitably qualified and insured British Rowing and Sport England club coaches.
HOW IS THE COURSE RUN?
The course will consist of water and land based sessions depending on weather and tidal conditions. We will teach you in wide, stable boats, with either 2 or 4 people rowing. As a club Mark accredited club all sessions follow the appropriate Water Safety and Child Protection criteria.
WHEN IS IT?
This Learn 2 Row course runs on Thursdays from 5 August through to and including
26 August. Each session will start at 2.00pm and finish at 4.00pm. While the course is 4 weeks long attendance at all sessions is not mandatory and it may be possible to catch up one missed session on another evening.
WHERE IS IT?
Training will be based from Worthing Rowing Club, Splash Point, Marine Parade, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 3PN
HOW DO I APPLY?
If you would like to take part please email us by clicking here. We will then send you further details and an application form that will need to be returned to us by post.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The course costs £30. There will be no additional costs although you will need to bring your own food and refreshments. A non refundable (unless we decide to cancel the course) deposit of £10 is required.
Cheques should be made payable to "Worthing Rowing Club" or if you prefer we can provide our bank details for you to make a bank transfer.
WHAT DO I NEED
A change of clothing and kit that you do not mind getting wet, including trainers and a towel. Some track suit bottoms and a warm top would be sensible plus the usual sun block and hat.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE COURSE
You will be invited to join the Junior Section of Worthing Rowing Club. You will then be able to choose to train really hard, join one of our crews, row recreationally or just come and use our indoor rowing machines.
